Saturday Well, the bathroom painting is finally completed. What a chore...but it is done. I also painted the stairwell from the kitchen down into the family room. It was so grungy. Now it looks so clean and white. It only took 45 minutes or so. I have all my shopping completed except maybe one gift for my husband. I was able to mail my family's gifts on Monday and I talked to my mom and she has received them. My husband's family will be here for the holidays so we didn't have to mail their gifts. Our Christmas open house is tomorrow evening. We always have such a nice group of people. My MIL is really looking forward to the party since this is the first time they have been here at Christmas time. I am still in a little funk. I hope my attitude and mood improve by tomorrow. Damselfly Lady December 18 Tuesday Woohoo, we finally painted the bathroom molding tonight. I hated every minute of it. We need to put a second coat on the doors tomorrow. December 17 MondayWell, we had a great weekend. Saturday started out with house cleaning and leaf collecting (blowing and raking). We have our leaves collected from December 15-21, so we had to get them all out onto the edge of our front lawn. This is the third weekend in a row my husband had to blow/rake leaves. We live in a very wooded area.
I finished decorating the house for Christmas and then we both got cleaned up and went to lunch to celebrate my birthday. From lunch we went to the mall to return a purchase and buy a few more Chrismas gifts. Then we went to Wal*Mart and Toys-R-Us to look for some other Christmas gifts. Then off to Bor*ders (books) for more shopping. We stopped on the way for a couple of Lattes at Star*Bucks. I received a gift card from a vendor of ours at work, so we took it for a spin. :) Yum.
We then headed home. I spent the evening wrapping gifts and watching television. We watched 'It's a Wonderful LIfe'. My husband said he does not like to watch that movie on regular TV with commercials, so we planned to go out on Sunday and purchase the DVD.
On Sunday, we went to church and then to do a little more shopping, then onto the best hotel in town's Christmas brunch. Yum again. We go to this brunch every year at Christmas time. It is pretty expensive, but its the holidays and my birthday to boot. We ate our weight in food and then went home. I took a nap, and then made some Christmas gifts and went to bed.
Well that was my weekend. Very busy, but we still did not get our bathroom molding painted...can you believe it. I HAVE TO buy the paint today and put the first coat on tonight...HAVE TO! Will let you know tomorrow, if that happened. HAVE TO!
Have a good week. Ho Ho Ho. December 14 Christmas hussle and bussleWell we finally got the lights on the tree. We picked up the tree on Sunday and put it in the stand, kept it watered and then it just sat there. I have been too tired each night after work to decorate it. My husband is only to happy to put it off as well. I have caught a cold (strange expression), and it is a doozy. Still very stuffed up after four days. I do feel a tad better today. The first three days were awful. So needless to say, I have been getting to work each day, but nothing else has gotten done.
Saturday, yikes, that's tomorrow, we need to go buy paint for the bathroom molding and doors, then we need to get home and paint the darn molding already. I don't know why we keep putting it off, it is not that difficult. I think it is the idea of painting those awful blue doors. But we have to get it done tomorrow. My MIL is coming next week and if it's not done by her arrival we will never hear the end of it. Just kidding a little. She wouldn't say anything to us, but when my FIL gets here she would probably give him an earful about our laziness. She's right we have been a tad lazy, since the remodel was completed in September. Yikes again.
It is also my birthday on tomorrow. We are going to have a very expensive brunch at a 5-star hotel in town on Sunday to celebrate the occasion. We try to go every year, it has become a tradition. It's a lot of fun. For one time, we...shhhh...don't tell anyone, but we forget we are vergetarians. Don't let that get out. We also need to finish up the shopping and get some gifts ready to mail. There will be a lot less this year since my husbands family is coming for the holidays. Usually we are shipping off all the gifts for the family.
My MIL comes on Wednesday, then we get ready for all the tasks for our Christmas open house we hold each year on the 22nd or the 23rd. This is our third annual. Tis the season. No snow yet, but keep your fingers crossed.
P.S. I almost forgot, we need to finish decorating the tree tonight. That is usually the best part. Fa la la la la la la la la.
Have a great weekend everyone. December 12 Twas the night before ChristmasTwas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone, in a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone. I had come down the chimney with presents to give, and to see just who in this home did live. I looked all about, a strange sight I did see, no tinsel, no presents, not even a tree. No stocking by mantle, just boots filled with sand, on the wall hung pictures of far distant lands. With medals and badges, awards of all kinds, a sober thought came through my mind. For this house was different, it was dark and dreary, I found the home of a soldier, once I could see clearly. The soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone, curled up on the floor in this one bedroom home. The face was so gentle, the room in such disorder, not how I pictured a United States soldier. Was this the hero of whom I’d just read? Curled up on a poncho, the floor for a bed? I realized the families that I saw this night, owed their lives to these soldiers who were willing to fight. Soon round the world, the children would play, and grownups would celebrate a bright Christmas day. They all enjoyed freedom each month of the year, because of the soldiers, like the one lying here. I couldn’t help wonder how many lay alone, on a cold Christmas Eve in a land far from home. The very thought brought a tear to my eye, I dropped to my knees and started to cry. The soldier awakened and I heard a rough voice, “Santa don’t cry, this life is my choice; I fight for freedom, I don’t ask for more, my life is my God, my Country, my Corps.” The soldier rolled over and drifted to sleep, I couldn’t control it, I continued to weep. I kept watch for hours, so silent and still and we both shivered from the cold night’s chill. I didn’t want to leave on that cold, dark, night, this guardian of honor so willing to fight. Then the solider rolled over, with a voice soft and pure, whispered, “Carry on Santa, it’s Christmas day, all is secure.” One look at my watch, and I knew he was right. “Merry Christmas my friend, and to all a good night.” -Anonymous December 03 December already!Wow, the last month of the year. It has always been my favorite. Christmas and my birthday...who could ask for anything more. Nothing much going on. I am in a funk. We have Christmas parties coming up and a concert to attend...Glenn Beck. If you are not a conservative, you probably haven't heard of him. He has a radio talk show and a program on CNN Headline News. I always find him interesting...not that I always agree with everything he says.
We have a Christmas open house each December 23. I am in the planning stages for that and also trying to get some Christmas shopping done as well. We invite our neighbors, friends, co-workers, and church friends. It is always a good turnout and loads of fun. My husband gets a little high strung right before the event. He is a little bit of a control freak, and doesn't know how to go with the flow. I don't think that will ever change. I love him all the same.
My husband received a promotion recently and I will get a raise starting with my first paycheck in December. Its all good.
